Surfing the rugged North Cornwall coastline in the middle of winter isn’t for the faint-hearted. (Honestly, even summer can feel like winter in the UK, but we digress.) From freezing winds to relentless rain and icy waters, the experience is breathtaking… and occasionally bone-chilling.
For Dryrobe® founder Gideon Bright, this was just normal life. Growing up in St Ives and St Agnes, he was out surfing come rain or shine. And though he was totally in love with the waves, there was one thing he definitely did not love: struggling out of a wetsuit in the cold, wrapped in a soggy towel, teeth chattering.
When his mum Anne gifted him a handmade changing robe, everything changed, and struck with inspiration, Gideon began designing what would become the first-ever Dryrobe®: a waterproof, windproof outer shell with a super-warm inner lining, creating the first ever weatherproof changing robe.
Launched in 2010, Dryrobe® quickly made waves. Triathletes, swimmers, paddleboarders, and obstacle course racers couldn’t get enough. Even film crews caught on, keeping themselves cosy for long outdoor sessions. Yes, we’re talking Game of Thrones, Peaky Blinders, and Bridgerton.
