At Reskinned, we're all about giving clothing a second life and inspiring more people to embrace circular fashion. And what better way to spread the word than through creative content, an engaged community and a shared passion for sustainability? So today, we're excited to introduce Soph, our new Social Media & Partnerships Manager and the newest addition to the Reskinned team. We sat down with her to chat about her journey from content creator to Reskinned, what she loves most about her role, and her top tips for building a more sustainable wardrobe.

Can you share a little about your journey before joining Reskinned as the new Social Media & Partnerships Manager.

I’ve had a pretty varied career (I did a stint as a truck driver on a gold mine before moving into E-Commerce tech) but sustainable fashion has always been a passion. I started my own social media presence @slowfashionsoph, across Instagram, TikTok, Facebook and Youtube (where I have a combined 63,000 followers) and had previously worked with Reskinned. When they posted that they were looking for a new social media manager, I knew I had to apply!

What do you find most rewarding about your role?

I love being a part of a company that’s making a difference in the fashion industry. There’s so much overproduction and clothing waste and it’s great to know that we’re doing something to tackle that.

Can you walk us through a typical day?

My day starts by scrolling through our social media, engaging with our community, checking out trends and getting inspiration for upcoming videos. I work closely with the brand partnerships team so my day could include planning campaigns for new drops, new brand launches and events. It’s super exciting because the role is so varied and I get to experiment with different content formats. There’s always lots of filming and occasionally I get to host an eBay live!

What do you enjoy most about working at Reskinned?

It’s hard to pick just one! I love getting to work with such an amazing team, their knowledge of circular fashion is just incredible. Everyday is an opportunity to learn about repairing, recycling or reusing. Obviously saving items from landfill is up there too.

What are your top tips for shopping more sustainably?

  1. Secondhand first, if you see something you like on the high-street try and find it on second-hand resale sites first. We already have enough clothes on the planet and you might not find the exact item but you could find a super cool vintage version instead! Side note, highly recommend our eBay store - I recently picked up some Reiss ponyskin loafers for £12!.
  2. Shop natural fibres, look for 100% cotton, wool or cashmere when shopping. It’s better for the planet as synthetic clothing such as polyester, nylon, and acrylic sheds up to 700,000 to 12 million microfibers in a single wash cycle. They can be ingested by marine animals which can have catastrophic effects on the species and the entire marine ecosystem. Also, natural animal fibers like wool keep you significantly warmer than most synthetic fabrics!
  3. Track your wardrobe, I’m a BIG fan of wardrobe apps like Indyx or Whering. You can log your outfits so you can see what you’ve actually been wearing and use that to identify potential gaps in your wardrobe making it easier to shop mindfully!

Soph's creativity, enthusiasm and passion for sustainable fashion make her a fantastic addition to the Reskinned team. We're so excited to have her on board, helping us grow our community, champion second-hand style and inspire more people to keep clothing in circulation for longer.
